WCAP 2028: Melbourne to Host the Global Animal Production Community
The World Association for Animal Production (WAAP), together with the Australian Association of Animal Sciences (AAAS), is delighted to invite the global animal science and animal production community to Melbourne, Australia, for the 13th World Conference on Animal Production (WCAP 2028), to be held from 2-5 July 2028.
Under the overarching theme“The Importance of Animals in a Changing World: Animals, Ecosystems and Humanity – Interconnected Futures”, WCAP 2028 will provide an important forum for scientists, industry leaders, policymakers and emerging professionals to examine the critical role of animals in addressing the environmental, social and economic challenges of a rapidly changing world.
In their welcome message, Professor Michael Friend and Dr Sue Hatcher Co-Chairs of the Organising Committee, emphasise the importance of bringing together the global animal production community at a time of unprecedented change. The conference will explore how animal systems contribute to sustainable, resilient and equitable futures, while addressing challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, food and fibre security, technological disruption and evolving societal expectations.
The scientific program will be built around five interconnected themes:
- Integrating the End User
- Social Aspects
- Digital Transformation & Omics
- Conservation of the Natural World
- Food & Fibre Security
Australia’s diverse production systems, strong research capability and close engagement between industry and researchers provide an ideal setting for international dialogue and collaboration. WCAP 2028 promises to be a landmark event, fostering innovation, knowledge exchange and partnerships that will help shape the future of animal production worldwide.
Call for Expressions of Interest for Papers
The WCAP 2028 Organising Committee has also announced the Call for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for Papers, providing an early opportunity for researchers, academics, industry professionals and practitioners worldwide to contribute to the scientific program and showcase their work at WCAP 2028.
Authors will be able to nominate publication in either a special WCAP 2028 collection of Animal Production Science or in Animal Science in Australia, the conference proceedings publication of AAAS.

- Authors notified of publication stream: 30 November 2026
- Animal Production Science papers due: September 2027
- Animal Science in Australia papers due: Early 2028
